As part of its commitment to sustainable development
BEC SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH ECOEMBES FOR
IMPROVEMENT OF WASTE COLLECTION SYSTEM
Bilbao Exhibition Centre and Ecoembes have signed an agreement intended to improve the centre’s selective collection system for light packaging and waste paper/cardboard. The project will entail actions by both organisations to adjust and extend the existing procedure to cater for the types of waste currently produced by the centre.
The main objectives of the agreement are to minimise the amount of materials landfilled and work towards the sustainable management of the resources of the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, in line with the directives set by the European Union on the recycling of packaging. The current collection system for waste paper/cardboard will be extended, and a new procedure will be set in place for collecting light packaging. The aim is to heighten awareness among all the employees and other persons involved so that it is seen as normal to separate waste at source.
The Bilbao Exhibition Centre has for many years been committed to preserving the natural environment and its resources, and the agreement signed with Ecoembes should be seen in that context. The centre stages in events intended to heighten awareness of the importance of sustainable growth and development, and its facilities are managed under an ethos of environmental responsibility.
Ecoembes is a not-for-profit organisation set up in 1996 by a group of companies in the packaging, recycling and waste valorisation industries.
